This weekend I traveled to Silver Spring, Maryland to be a speaker at the WPPI Road Trip DC. While I hit a bit of a bump on the homeward journey (my bus broke down and it took 6.5 hours to get home), the event went extremely well! At this presentation there were well over 300 people in the audience, with a substantial majority being young women (age 25-35). It gave me a pretty strong 'girl power' moment. Before and after the presentations I spoke to dozens of young women who asked really insightful and forward-thinking questions.
I've found a trend with WPPI... at every WPPI event I meet very energetic, passionate people. Their energy and love of photography is very refreshing. Sometimes at other meetings and conferences there are a lot of tired, older professionals who have seen the best and the worst of the industry. The people at WPPI are often very optimistic and full of life. The majority of the people there are young aspiring professionals, eager to embrace their passion and pursue the life/career of their dreams. I chatted with so many nice people that have tons of great ideas for the future of their business and of photography itself. It was really a great time.
There were three other speakers and myself: Greg Gibson, Clay Blackmore, and Jasmine Star. I watched all three speakers, and I was glad I finally had the opportunity to watch Jasmine present. She is vivacious, energetic, and gives a great 'pick me up' speech to urge young professionals to be go-getters. I had heard about her presentations and the buzz around it, and I see that it is her energy and general message that is so attractive. Because of her presentation, I am going to try to write some more personal blog posts periodically so I can share a bit more about my personality and goals. I'll start with this week with a post to celebrate my 25th birthday on Friday.
In the mean time, here all 100+ pages of my 1.5 hour presentation "Organization in the Digital Age". I hope you find this information useful. I cover workflow programs, keywords, metadata, copyright, cloud storage, external hard drives, archiving, drobos, and more!
